Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Coordinator of Resident Support Services for Rutgers Residence Life. The Residential Care Coordinator for Student Support reports to the Assistant Director for Student Support and is responsible for the support and intervention of psychological concerns of residential students. The coordinator assumes responsibility for providing support, assistance, and follow-up to critical incidents related to resident students in distress, their ability to successfully manage living in a university residence hall environment, and the associated impact on the larger residential community. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Student Support the Coordinator will engage directly with resident students, parents/guardians, and key Department/University staff regarding mental health and other critical incident management.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:


Ensures timely and effective transition of cases from after-hours on-call staff to the staff responsible for business-hours incident management and follow up.
Responsible for accurate, thorough, and timely documentation and information dissemination and must ensure accurate and timely follow-up on a wide range of time-sensitive case management tasks and responsibilities.
Assists in the completion of new initiatives, special projects, and any work needed to meet the goals for the department and the Division of Student Affairs.
Responsible for training campus staff in emerging trends on how to support the needs of students with mental health issues.
Works with the departmental assessment unit to ensure a high level of quality service to students of concern by developing and utilizing data assessment tools, surveys, etc.
Works with the Residential Care Coordinator for Programming and Outreach to create and implement programming and outreach efforts from Student Support to the residential communities in order to raise awareness of, educate around, and reduce stigma associated with mental health and wellness trends within the residential communities.
May be asked to facilitate programming within residential communities on a regular basis, tailoring programmatic and outreach efforts to needs of residential students and staff.
Serves as a resource to specific student populations, as a consultant and advocate for their concerns, and respond to students and parents with concerns in a compassionate and timely manner.

Minimum Education and Experience


Bachelors degree in a related field.
At least 2 years of professional experience in a college or university Residence Life setting.





Certifications/Licenses


Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid drivers license would be required for this position.





Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Experience in crisis response and student conduct work.
Experience with programming or case management (can include student conduct case management).
Fortitude and passion for mental health work.
Superior writing, communication, and record keeping skills.
Excellent administrative and note taking skills.





Preferred Qualifications


Masters degree in student affairs, higher education, social work, psychology, or other related field.
Prefers 3 years of professional experience in a college or university Residence Life setting.
Experience with mental health support, social work, or psychological support.
Public speaking skills.

Special Conditions


This position is live-on optional. If living on, this position is required to serve on a duty rotation where it is expected to respond to emergency situations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when on duty.
