Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 11 states.
We are now hiring a Housing VISTA in Princeton, NJ as part of a project through AmeriCorps VISTA. The Advocacy and Community Engagement VISTA is responsible for developing a curriculum for self-advocacy for individuals with disabilities as well as recruiting new Community Options Business Advisory Council members.
Responsibilities:

Develop a survey for existing COBAC members. Meet with each COBAC member to discuss areas of improvement for volunteer-led initiatives. Based on volunteer feedback, develop an action plan to enhance COBAC experience
Attend trainings and orientations; shadow a Residential Director/Program Managers; conduct site visits. Begin implementation of COBAC action plan
Recruit new COBAC members by establishing a stronger presence in the community. VISTA should attend business networking events, join member coalitions, Chambers of Commerce, etc.
Participate in Cupids Chase 5K planning, coordinating, and volunteer-recruitment. Develop peer to peer fundraising tools to share with COBAC members. Solicit new partners, vendors, and sponsors for Cupids Chase.
Leverage volunteers to identify fundraising, grant, corporate partnership, or publicity opportunities geared toward growth of housing opportunities as appropriate
Develop a self-advocacy-informed curriculum that educates people with disabilities on disability rights history, current challenges to achieving safe/affordable/supportive housing, how to speak up for their needs and interests, and how to educate others to do the same
Conduct outreach and recruit guest speakers, educators, and experts on affordable housing, disability rights, public speaking and community outreach

Requirements:

Must be 18 years of age or older
Bachelors degree is highly preferred (2022 College Grads are strongly encouraged to apply!)
Must be legally authorized to work in the US
Successful members should have strong written and verbal communication skills, some experience with or knowledge of community outreach, marketing, workforce development, affordable housing, special education or disability services, and good time management/ organizational skills.
