The Pennsylvania State University - Abington College invites applications for a Program Chair position in the Education degree program offered at Abington College (https://www.abington.psu.edu/academics/majors-at-abington/early-education).The incumbent program chair will be appointed as faculty to a non-tenure-track, full-time Associate Teaching or Teaching Professor in Education. Beginning on or soon after June 1, 2023, this is a 48-week non tenured faculty line, limited-term (single year) academic appointment with a strong expectation of appointment renewal for subsequent periods. Contract reviews are done annually by no later than June 30th.As program chair, candidates should have prior faculty leadership experience and expertise as department chair and/or administrative leadership experience in undergraduate teacher education programs in higher education or K-12 education administration. The incumbent will also have prior experience with leading assessment initiatives and accreditation oversight, specifically with either AAQEP (Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation), CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation) or equivalent regional accrediting body for education programs.As faculty, candidates should demonstrate commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, both inside and outside the classroom. Candidates who have prior experience teaching both lower level and upper division undergraduate courses in their area of expertise are preferred. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with diverse student populations and demonstrate strong commitment to and experience partnering with schools, families, communities and/or community agencies.The required faculty teaching load is 2-2 with a possible portion of courses offered to include one undergraduate course and supervision duties of practicum and/or student teacher experiences. The incumbent will also be expected to contribute to the college community through service/ committee activities. Opportunities for professional development and promotion are available and will be supported.The incumbent will also hold a secondary administrative appointment as Director of Teacher Partnerships, reporting to the Chancellor. The compensation for this secondary appointment will be an administrative stipend in addition to the base salary for the Program Chair position. As Director of Teacher Education Partnerships, the incumbent would work with the Office of Continuing Education and other stakeholders to create partnerships with area school districts and other entity partners to develop and oversee pipeline programs for teaching education credentialing in the greater Philadelphia area.Candidates must have an earned doctorate degree in Education (or closely related field) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; Faculty title (either Associate Teaching or Teaching Professor) for this position is determined by the educational level and years of prior higher education faculty experience of the finalist.Penn State Abington serves racially- and ethnically diverse students, first-generation college students, students from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, and a significant international student population.
