Maritime Academy is searching for a Physical Education Teacher for the 2023-24 school year, to provide instruction to students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. SCHEDULE: 7:15 AM through 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday
QualificationsQualifications for Maritime Academy teaching professionals include:

Current PA Health & Physical Education PK-12 Teaching Certification
Strong content knowledge
Highly skilled at teaching a standards-based curriculum and incorporating innovative approaches to instruction
Ability to deliver engaging lessons
Experience in using data to drive instruction and inform decision making
Commitment to urban education and a belief that all students should be held to high academic standards
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, teamwork and leadership skills
High physical and emotional energy
Strong technology skills
Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to wear many hats
Excellent communication skills
Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Salary and BenefitsMaritime Academy offers a competitive benefits and salary package, including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, at no cost to the employee. Employees do not participate in the state PSERS pension plan; however, a comparable, alternate 403b plan with a generous match is offered to all new employees. All teaching positions are 10-month positions, paid over 12 months.
Professional Development and CollaborationMaritime Academy is dedicated to providing professional learning opportunities for our staff. One full day per month is set aside on the school calendar as a staff professional development day, which allows for collaboration and planning time, as well as opportunities for professional growth and learning. Also, our tuition reimbursement program provides a benefit of up to $1,000 per school year for continuing education and professional development opportunities. In addition, our Teacher Induction Program supports the professional growth of our new teachers by providing methods, strategies and techniques to manage their classrooms and develop the skills that are associated with highly effective teachers.
About Our School Quick Facts

Currently serving approximately 900 students in grades K through 12
Two school campuses located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia:
Elementary and middle school students attend classes in several historical buildings in the Frankford Arsenal campus (2275 Bridge Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137)
High school students attend classes at the Douglas School campus in the Port Richmond section of the city (2700 East Huntingdon Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125)
Class sizes average 25 students
Special theme of maritime studies integrated throughout the curriculum
