Overview


The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Dean II for Academic Programs & Research. This position will lead national and international recruitment efforts for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position, in consultation with other units at the School and across RutgersNew Brunswick, develops, refines, and implements a comprehensive strategy for recruiting and enrolling students in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences with special emphasis on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion and out-of-state and international student populations. The Assistant Dean manages the budget associated with these activities. This position is part of a team of advisors in the Office of Academic Programs dedicated to general undergraduate advising and student success.

The Assistant Dean II position is responsible for all recruitment and outreach activities for undergraduate students for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position creates, implements, and provides leadership for all aspects of the admissions student journey while developing a unified brand to increase applicant quality and student enrollment. The Assistant Dean is the institutional expert for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences on all issues related to the development and implementation of effective recruitment planning, managing and assessing data to track recruitment progress and goals, and coordinating recruitment-based education and outreach efforts. This position works autonomously and collaboratively with a large variety of internal and external constituents, including SEBS faculty and staff, NJAES and RCE departments, the SEBS Office of Public Outreach and Communication, the Office of Enrollment Management, RU Global, the World Food Prize Foundation, national- and state-level FFA and 4H, and other organizations to promote outreach, education, and recruitment. Further, the Assistant Dean collaborates with the SEBS Office of Global Engagement to coordinate international student recruitment, outreach, onboarding activities, and retention. The Assistant Dean serves as an advisor to continuing SEBS students as a member of the Office of Academic Programs, providing guidance and advising as students prepare and implement academic plans. The position develops and supervises a team of Student Ambassadors to support recruitment events. The Assistant Dean position is critical to continued efforts to develop and shape our beloved community into a welcoming place with wide reach across the university, the state and the world.



Among the key duties of this position are the following:


Responsible for the design and coordination of all aspects of the admissions student journey while developing a unified brand to increase applicant quality and student enrollment. Manage and assess data to track recruitment progress and institutional goals. Create and analyze recruitment and enrollment reports to gauge and modify ongoing recruitment and retention efforts. Includes the full range of duties associated with recruiting and enrolling new students: planning, coordinating, and implementing recruitment/enrollment events and programs, and may include occasional out-of-state and international travel.
Assists with the development and implementation of overall SEBS diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, in part by providing expertise and guidance through a data-driven lens to the school administration to formulate admissions goals and scholarship and disposition decisions, as well as to target various regions, partner universities, and high schools to diversify outreach efforts. Serve on school and university committees to guide DEI goal development and implementation.
Serves as a member of the Deans staff in the Office of Academic Programs to support all office-wide tasks for the SEBS general student population, including providing developmental individual and group advising, managing an advising caseload of first-year students, participating in all large-scale academic programming including APA Day, STAR Day, graduation certification, delay drop/probation advising and other administrative duties including serving on school and university committees as assigned.
Coordinates faculty and staff of SEBS and NJAES to develop recruiting content about the School and its programs for print media, the web, email, and social media that includes text, images, video, and other content, particularly with emphasis on both domestic and international student populations. Recruits, trains, and advises a diverse group of volunteer student ambassadors, brand ambassadors, and tour guides who assist in recruiting and enrolling prospective students.
Works with current external agencies and build new partnerships to facilitate independent recruitment initiatives. This position is responsible for all recruitment-based education and outreach efforts, including facilitating the NJ Youth Institute of the World Food Prize, Prospective Student Open House, Admitted Student Open House, tours and coordinating with state and national chapters of FFA and 4H; this position serves as the point person for enrollment management activities with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, as well as collaborations with EOF, the SEBS Office of Global Engagement, and the SEBS Office of Public Outreach and Communication for the effective recruitment, outreach and onboarding of SEBS communities (EOF, International, etc).
