Description:
Provides environmental support to the hospital and predominantly to nursing units to ensure a safe and clean environment. The priority is for room preparation for admitted, transferred and discharged patients. Responsible for daily cleaning and paper and soap supplies for patient rooms, units, nursing stations, lounges, lavatories, public restrooms, offices and any other areas assigned in accordance with standard procedures of the environmental services department. Weekends and holidays are rotating and included in the schedule.
Cleans and relines individual refuse containers with plastic bags. Collects refuse from high use areas multiple times if needed. Maintains isolation precautions as indicated. Recognizes role in infection control. Performs routine cleaning and routine freshening per protocols. Completes terminal cleaning upon patient discharge. Follows 10-step process (routine and discharge). Polishes metal or other bright surfaces. Scours metal or other bright surfaces. Cleans horizontal and vertical surfaces that collect dust û cleans from top down. Cleans tops of windows, door frames and other high places using ladder when necessary. Washes sinks and other plumbing fixtures (toilets, showers, urinals). Replaces items such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper. Spot cleans walls and windows, washes walls and ceilings. Cleans spills. Responds promptly during urgent/emergency situations. Follows 4 step process to clean floors and carpets. Thoroughly sweeps floors under elevated furnishings. Mop floors as needed, using wet floor signs. Vacuums and spot cleans carpets. Every third room, or as needed, cleans brooms, changes cleaning solution and mop water. Utilizes detergents, disinfectants, polishes and finishes appropriately. Follows MSDS guidelines. Safely utilizes equipment. Takes broken equipment out of service and notifies manager. Reports missing items prior to end of shift. Signs out pagers at beginning of shift and returns at end. Uses standard precautions at all times. Able to locate and demonstrate appropriate use of personal protective equipment and safety equipment such as gloves, gowns, masks/eye shields Utilizes good body mechanics when lifting, pushing or pulling patients or objects.
