JOB DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director is the chief administrative official of SAFE in Hunterdon, a county wide domestic and sexual violence agency, and reports directly to the Board of Trustees (BOT). They are responsible for providing visionary leadership as well as operational expertise. As the chief spokesperson, they are to effectively communicate the mission and spirit of advocacy for victims and survivors of domestic, sexual, or intimate partner violence. The Executive Director (ED) is the principal resource to Board, staff, domestic violence programs, and all relevant governmental and community organizations. Their responsibilities include the oversight and strengthening of the organizations infrastructure that supports its programs and its anticipated growth.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of the agency, including the development, organization and implementation of domestic violence crisis response, sexual assault crisis response, legal advocacy, hotline, shelter, prevention, outreach and counseling. The Executive Director will provide administrative oversight of grant development and management including compliance with federal, state, and local statutes, ordinances, and regulations; as well as internal SAFE policies and procedures; fiscal management and program coordination, and services to clients. Furthermore, the Executive Director carries out duties related to personnel development, recruitment, training and supervision. The Executive Director is also responsible for the financial performance and viability of the organization working in partnership with the Board to develop sufficient resources to ensure the financial health and sustainability of the agency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Board Governance

? Responsible for leading SAFE in Hunterdon in a manner that supports and guides the organizations mission as defined by the Board of Directors.

? Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

? Assist the Board of Trustees in the development and implementation of a strategic plan.

Financial Performance and Viability

? Manage the procurement of funds and financial affairs of SAFE in Hunterdon including research, and overseeing the programmatic grants to support the organizations goals, and managing grant budget guidelines to ensure fiscal responsibility. Ensure that all proposals, grant applications, and reports are submitted in a timely manner.

? Responsible for donor solicitation, major gift campaigns, annual fundraising events, and identification of new sources of public and private support.

? Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health and fiscal integrity of the organization.

Organization Operations

? Act in the capacity of an advisor to the Board of Trustees: keeping them informed of all agency operations.

? Administer SAFE in Hunterdons programs, according to the organizations stated mission, and maintain overall responsibility for all activities within budgetary provisions and grant guidelines.

? Lead internal culture shifts

? Develop and administer sound personnel practices that ensure the personal and professional growth of SAFE in Hunterdon employees. This shall include recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and terminating staff in order to provide the highest quality of services to clients and the efficient and effective operation of all programs.

? Establish a clear and appropriate chain of command and delegation of responsibilities.

? Develop and implement outreach programs, focusing on community education and prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault.

? Ensure that a viable volunteer program is an integral part of agency activities.

? Keep apprised of developments and trends in the agencys operation and be attentive to the changing or growing needs of the community.

? Provide for periodic review, evaluation and modification of the programs to meet community needs, as well as funding source requirements.

Community Outreach, Relations and Communication

? Develop and maintain appropriate community relations and be transparent in regular communication with stakeholders and the public.

? Ensure agency representation on statewide domestic violence prevention coalitions, other community collaborations, commissions and task forces.

? Develop and coordinate public relations and media efforts that include coalition building and organizational collaboration with other community service providers and all governmental partners.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

? Bachelor or Masters Degree in Business, Social Work, Non-Profit and Volunteer Management or Public Administration

? Five years of management experience in a non-profit agency, community based organization or other human service setting

? Passion for changing the lives of victims and survivors and building a strong, stable, innovative mission-driven agency

? Knowledge of the dynamics and issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault

? Full knowledge of all related Non-Profit and Volunteer laws, standards and operations

? Demonstrated successful experience working with an engaged and informed Board of Trustees

? Demonstrated record of high impact success and leadership skills in managing a Non-Profit and Volunteer organization

? Commitment to staying abreast of the emerging trends in the field

? Demonstrated skills in budgeting, fiscal management, grant writing, fund raising, donor solicitation and program management and development.

? Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

? Possess proven organizational and time management skills.

? Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel development including experience supervising paid professional and volunteer staff.

? Ability to use technology (software familiarity) and operate in a virtual environment

? Experience and knowledge of victim services and advocacy.

? Possess or the ability to obtain, within the first year of employment, the 80 hour domestic violence and sexual assault victim counselor training

? Ability and flexibility to travel as needed including occasional out-of-town and overnight trips.

Extent of Authority and Reporting Relationship

? The Executive Director position is limited to all management and supervisory decisions related to the daily operation of SAFE in Hunterdon

? The Executive Director serves at the will of the Board of Trustees and is accountable to the Board of Trustees.

Note: The salary of this position is commensurate with experience and other fringe benefits.
